Dan has created a number of large publishing and content management systems for companies including A List Apart, Halogen Guides, Rails Machine, Alma College, 14 Trips, Capgemini (as part of a Happy Cog project), and many more.
Dan co-founded Cork’d with Dan Cederholm in 2005, creating the software platform, infrastructure, code, and user-experience behind the world's first social network for wine aficionados. The site was a success, initially signing up over 40,000 active users, and was acquired by Gary Vaynerchuk of Wine Library TV.
Dan takes this experience, his background running a software development agency for many years, and the knowledge he gained as a CTO for several media and technology companies, and helps companies like Rails Machine, ADS, NextUpdate, and others improve their success through better branding, strategy, positioning, and community involvement.
Dan is a usability designer with a focus on creating a clear, simple user experience. He has worked on many projects, creating systems that employ a visual language for user interaction that has proven to be effective in improving how real people use web and desktop applications.
Dan also does a variety of voice, video, screencasting, and A/V production work, though he is probably best known for his two podcasts: The Talk Show, about technology, the iPhone, and Mac (co-hosted by John Gruber of Daring Fireball), and Tack Sharp, a photography podcast which he co-hosts with James Duncan Davidson.
