The Kindle Development Kit
Just ahead of Apple’s mystery announcement next week, Amazon has announced the Kindle Development Kit.
[The Kit] includes sample code, documentation, and the Kindle Simulator, which helps developers build and test their content by simulating the 6-inch Kindle and 9.7-inch Kindle DX on Mac, PC, and Linux desktops.
Revenue will be split 70/30, and content will be available for sale (or for free) in the Kindle Store later this year.
As a Kindle 2 owner, I can comment that it’s clear to me the Kindle wasn’t really designed as a multi-purpose device the way that, say, an iPhone is or Apple Table might be. But even so, I’m looking forward to seeing what happens in this space. The device has a lot of potential for some specific applications.
