A Mixed Blessing

I had grown to despise our digital camera. I could live with the disturbing sensitivity to the slightest motion, making even a carefully planned image blurry. I could accept the exceptionally bright flash, giving all of its victims that trendy “nuclear blast” look.

But what I couldn’t handle was the awful image import options: Use the lame “ZoomPhoto” garbage software, or import directly into Photoshop. Neither were easy, and both were frustratingly complicated, even for this UNIX geek.

To my surprise, Windows XP handles this entire process with ease. Traditionally, Windows makes things like this harder – but now – importing and publishing pictures is as easy as right-clicking. I’m impressed.

Update: Just be sure to disable Universal PnP or get yourself a decent firewall and stop worrying about this mess altogether.
