The Enkoder ... for Leopard?
07 January 2008 · 46 Comments · No tags

Long ago there was a Mac OS X version of the Enkoder available, and I’m thinking about re-releasing an updated, Universal Binary version for Leopard (and Tiger).
I wouldn’t charge anything for it at this point, but I might include a donation link.
Is this something you might be interested in?

Absolutely! I use it on a regular basis.
Ben · 07 January 2008 at 11:01 AM
Sure thing! I still use the old one in Rosetta.
Mat · 07 January 2008 at 11:01 AM
Yes, I'm interested! I love Enkoder <3
sho'fr · 07 January 2008 at 11:01 AM
YES!

Yes - I have used your app to help protect the small NPO I do work for from getting spammed. So please .... much appreciated.
Jason · 07 January 2008 at 11:01 AM
Yes! Would love to see that and Dimensionizer too! :D
Jeremy P · 07 January 2008 at 12:01 PM
I'd appreciate it.
Dan Benjamin · 07 January 2008 at 01:01 PM
Would having the app be a big benefit over the web version?
Simon Clayson · 07 January 2008 at 01:01 PM
I was going to say: What's the difference to the web version?
Nico · 07 January 2008 at 02:01 PM
Since I use the Enkoder Form only on my Mac anyway, I would love to see an updated Desktop version.
Chris · 07 January 2008 at 02:01 PM
I find myself using the web version every now and then. I suppose a native app would be nice. I'm not picky ... the web app is already cool enough! :D
Alderete · 07 January 2008 at 03:01 PM
I used my old version of the Enkoder literally just last week, to update all of my web-exposed emails (which I add the current year to, e.g., info-2008@...). I would love to have an updated version.
The advantage of the desktop version is it preserves my old choices for the menus, so I can make quick edits ("8" for "7"), keep my hover and no-JavaScript messages consistent, etc.
Plus, my organization system for my applications is a lot better than my organization system for my web bookmarks (there are a lot fewer apps on my system, by an order of magnitude, at least). So it's easier to find the local version when I want to make a quick update.
Alderete · 07 January 2008 at 03:01 PM
Oh, and, ahem. If the web version goes down (for problems, for lack of attention, forever), the web-based version is inaccessible, and it's outside my control. If my laptop goes down, I have bigger things to worry about than enkoding an email address or three, but it's under my control.

I want the update!!!
Jason · 07 January 2008 at 08:01 PM
An updated version would be great!

After I bought a Macbook a little over a year ago, I soon became a Rails developer (thanks in large part to your install tutorials!) so as I convert all my sites to run on that framework, I will be using your Enkoder Rails plugin! (p.s. still looking for that Rails on Leopard discussion. Thanks!)
Steve · 07 January 2008 at 10:01 PM
Update please. Love this app.
Ep · 08 January 2008 at 12:01 AM
Yes, I'd like to have it again.
Iolaire McFadden · 08 January 2008 at 09:01 AM
I downloaded the old app this week because the web app link was not working or I could not find it. It worked on Intel with OS X 10.4.x. I think as long as the web app is working you don't need to expend effort to improve the desktop version.
masukomi · 08 January 2008 at 01:01 PM
I'd use it, but honestly I wouldn't pay / donate for it because there are plenty of free alternatives. If only someone could come up with a viable micropayments system.

"Would having the app be a big benefit over the web version?"
Sure would, with the app version we can tweak it, bend it and otherwise coerce it to doing other things. :)

Yessir.
Brewpot · 09 January 2008 at 03:01 PM
That would be swell, and a command line interface would be nice too :)
Greg · 10 January 2008 at 03:01 AM
Yes Please!
Peter · 10 January 2008 at 11:01 PM
Please please please do both Dimensionizer and Enkoder for Leopard. Dimensionizer is the best and quickest way to view, copy and paste pixel dimensions.
Sharif · 11 January 2008 at 07:01 AM
I agree with Peter... I'd definitely use Dimensionizer and Enkoder, and would gladly donate for them.
Kyle · 11 January 2008 at 10:01 PM
I'd love if you kept this available as an app; we use it all the time. Probably wouldn't use the web version.
amoeba · 16 January 2008 at 05:01 PM
bumpity. $10 at least from me if i see it. tnx!
J · 17 January 2008 at 09:01 AM
I would absolutely be interested and I would be willing to pay for it.
MC · 17 January 2008 at 05:01 PM
I opened version 3 under Leopard today and updated the web site and it appeared to still work; however, I would welcome an update to a great app!
Dan Benjamin · 17 January 2008 at 05:01 PM
@MC - It will work, but it's not a Universal Binary and not ready for Leopard.
I've got it running on Leopard as a UB now, I'll release soon.
MC · 18 January 2008 at 12:01 AM
I look forward to the UB, Leopard version. I use it all the time. Great work!
Geoffrey Knobl · 21 January 2008 at 08:01 PM
Yes, I find it very useful. I would donate something small.
B · 22 January 2008 at 12:01 PM
Absolutely! I used the Enkoder several times and found it very useful. Thank you!
Sally Craft · 23 January 2008 at 04:01 PM
We use this a lot and we'd be happy to pay for it.
Jane · 23 January 2008 at 06:01 PM
yes, please!
Peter · 25 January 2008 at 09:01 AM
Yrs, please! Charge us a couple bucks for it too. You deserve something for your work.
pat naismith · 02 February 2008 at 01:02 PM
Enkoder has to be one of the most used small apps I have over the past 12 mths. A Leopard version would be great.
More mportantly I would lie to see a class or id input added I might use the same address in different styles on different websites and it would be helpful.
Also, grey on white makes for difficult reading when your my age.
I enjoy your work

I use it quite often still so I'd love to see an updated version. The app version is nice when working on a project offline. Many thanks! :)
Al · 04 May 2008 at 06:05 PM
I just discovered this excellent app, and was able to find a download of 3.0 somewhere. An update would be awesome!
Joel Sanda · 05 May 2008 at 11:05 AM
I'd use it. I frequently update a non-profit's website for the group and use your online version for the email addresses. Since I maintain a local copy of the site on my machine and am not always within WiFi range it's something I sorely miss!
· 12 May 2008 at 02:05 PM
Boy, do I miss the Enkoder web form too. I used it constantly, and there's nothing else even remotely like it. For someone like me who knows HTML but is not a programmer, it's invaluable.
I would love the application to be available soon as well -- even though I'd have to use it at home, since I'm toiling away on a PC at work!

Yes, a universal binary version of Enkoder working on 10.4 and 10.5 would be great.
I still use Enkoder 3.0 which works nicely with 10.4

Yes! Please! I used to have it in my old laptop, and was quite disappointed to see it gone from your site.
